Enter a remark (12 characters max.) or press ENTER to skip. You can │
use this space to mark QSOs. For example, marking with the string F2 │
or TROPO or EME, and so on, you will be able to find these QSOs from │
the SEARCH menu. For WAIP(Worked All Italian Provinces) insert first │
an identification character (like # or * etc.), always the same, │
and then the province code. Example: *RM *PA *MI or @RM @PA @MI. │
Use the same procedure for the British counties and American states │
making use of a different identification character. DO NOT USE the │
same identifier to mark other things. Use another one! You can │
write one or more marks for any QSO. For instance, remark *AP ES │
means a station worked in sporadic E in Ascoli Piceno province. In │
this case * has been used as province identification character. The │
space between *AP and ES is not compulsory. │

· AGG. PREF. ────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┤
How FASTLOG assigns the DXCC country to a callsign. │
│
To handle the DXCC countries FASTLOG uses PREFISSI.DAT and PAESI.DAT files. │
(in Italian PREFISSI means PREFIXES and PAESI means COUNTRIES) │
│
Every record in PREFISSI.DAT is composed of: │
│
1) the prefix (1 to 10 characters long). │
2) the first number. It indicates which country the prefix is assigned │
to. │
3) the second number. It is different from zero if the prefix refers to │
two different countries (for instance Y2 East Germany at one time and │
Germany now). │
4) the date (present only if the second number is not zero). Compared │
with the QSO date, allows the program to determine which country │
to assign. │
│
Every record in PAESI.DAT is composed of: │
│
1) the official country prefix. │
2) the country number, assigned by the program and not alterable. │
3) the country name. │
4) the continent. │
5) the status character, which may be V for Valid or D for Deleted. │
│
To assign the DXCC country FASTLOG reads the complete callsign and checks if │
there is an identical prefix in the memory resident table containing the │
data of PREFISSI.DAT file. If it doesn't find a match FASTLOG cuts one │
character from the right of the callsign and checks again. If it doesn't │
find a match it cuts another character and tries again until the first │
character is reached. If the searching has a negative result FASTLOG informs │
you. In this case the prefix in PREFISSI.DAT is missing or the callsign is │
wrong. In the case of successful searching FASTLOG checks the SECOND number │
of the found prefix. If it is zero it assigns to the callsign the country │
pointed out by the FIRST number. If the SECOND number is not zero, FASTLOG │
compares the prefix date with the QSO date. If the QSO date is IDENTICAL or │
BEFORE the prefix date it assigns the country pointed out by the SECOND │
number, otherwise it assigns the country pointed out by the FIRST number. │
Later on FASTLOG carries out the count of deleted countries and verifies the │
QSLs status. │
│
For example: │
the prefix Y2 was used by the East German radio amateurs until October 1990. │
After that date QSOs with Y2 count as Germany. │
In order for FASTLOG to assign QSOs before that date to East Germany and │
after that date to Germany, the prefix Y2 must be as follows: │
│
╔═════════════════════════════╗ │
║ Prefix 1st 2nd Until ║ │
╠══════════╤════╤════╤════════╣ │
║Y2 │87 │325 │ 311090 ║ │
╚══════════╧════╧════╧════════╝ │
│
(325 is the number of East Germany and 87 is that of Germany) │
When FASTLOG reads this prefix and realises that two different countries are │
possible due to the fact that the SECOND number is not zero, it compares the │
QSO date with the prefix date. If the QSO date is IDENTICAL or BEFORE │
October 31st, 1990 it assigns East Germany (2nd number) otherwise (November │
1st, 1990 and later) it assigns Germany (1st number). │
│
To assign a country the status "Deleted" you must change the status │
character from V (valid) to D (deleted) in the column marked "St" of the │
country window (right window). │
│
Complicated? May be, but I thing that this is a good way to manage the │
problem of prefixes which share two different countries. │
I advise you to make modifications with caution and only if strictly │
necessary. Always make a backup copy of the files before proceeding. To │
scroll the windows content use the same direction keys valid for other │
menus. To change the active window (left or right) press F2. Prefixes are │
arranged by number first, while countries by primary prefix. │

valid QSOs total, QRB total, QRB/QSOs average, country worked, squares │
worked and the best DX. You must point out the first to last QSO │
number (inclusive). Maximum 3000 QSOs can be examined. │
Q - switches between QSL status and QRB (right side of the screen). The │
formula employed takes the ellipsoidal shape of the earth into │
account. It has been written by SM5AGM Folke Rosvall. The presence of │
the math-coprocessor greatly speeds up this calculation. │
F - changes the frequency. │
L - prints 36 x 107 mm. labels for listed QSOs. On request writes S in the │
QSL field. │
P - prints the selected QSOs or writes them in a file. File can be ASCII │
or FASTLOG format. ASCII files have extension .TXT and each record is │
terminated with CR+LF. │
TAB - to enter the packet window. You can enter the packet window from any │
input and from anywhere in the program. │
ESC - goes back to the main menu. │

│
FUNCTION KEYS │
│
F1 - help (this screen). │
│
F2 - sets YES/NO to automatic verify of DX spot sent by the Packet Cluster │
(PCL) node you are connected to. The verify can be activated also if │
you are in monitor (not connected) on the operating frequency of a PCL │
node. In this case there is the possibility that the same DX spot is │
verified more than one time. This depends on how the PCL sent the DX │
spots to the connected stations. The verify window is aborted after 60 │
seconds or by pressing ESCAPE key. │
│
F3 - sets YES/NO to writing on disk of all you will receive. The writing │
will start at the exact time you set this function YES. All previous │
data will not be saved. The generated file is a text file and its name │
is YY-MM-DD.TXT where YY are the last two figures of the year, MM is │
the month and DD the day. These come from your computer date. If you │
set YES/NO several times during the day, the new records will be │
appended to the previous file. │
│
F4 - sets YES/NO to emission of an aud signal when receiving DX spots, │
announces, talks, etc. This signal is emitted, only if you are in │
connected state, also if you are in another place of the program (for │
instance, you are writing QSOs) and the PCL has sent to you DX spots, │
talks, etc. In this case also the date, displayed in the upper left │
corner of the screen, will be replaced with the flashing message "QTC │
PACKET "; now you can press the TAB key to enter the packet window and │
see what the PCL has sent to you. Pressing TAB key (or ESCAPE) a │
second time will leave the packet window and return to the previous │
function. Keep in mind that you can request the packet window from any │
input and from anywhere in the program by pressing TAB key. │
│
F5 - sets YES/NO to printing on paper of all you will receive. The printing │
will start as soon as you set this function to YES. All previous data │
will not be printed. The printer must be connected to LPT1: port and │
must be supplied with continuous form paper because the pause │
necessary to change the sheets is not handled. │
│
F6 - lists again all you have received. It is saved on a temporary file │
and, for this reason, the dimension of this buffer is limited only by │
the available space on disk (every character occupies one byte). Use │
DOWN ARROW, UP ARROW, PAGE DOWN, PAGE UP, END and HOME to scroll the │
buffer content. │
│
F7 - verifies a callsign or a prefix. You can use this function in the case │
a DX spot is not right or to verify a callsign heard on the air. │
│
F8 - put the TNC in COMMAND mode (sends Ctrl-C to the TNC). Type CONV │
<ENTER> to put it in CONVERS mode. │
│
F9 - sends the disconnecting signal. WARNING: this is the only way to │
disconnect if you have activated the automatic reconnection from │
SETUP. │
│
TAB - quit the packet window. │
ESC - as TAB. │
│
NOTES 1) the number which appear in the centre of the separating row │
(between trasmitting and receiving windows) displays how many │
characters you have typed on a single line. It is useful to not │
exceed the maximum character number for some PCL functions (for │
instance, the length of a message title). │
│
2) the last 20 typed commands can be recalled using UP ARROW and DOWN │
ARROW. Only the first 77 characters of every typed command are │
memorized. │
